Majorca will be seeing in the New Year in a very traditional style. The Balearic Island will be having its annual Festa de I’Estendard, which will be held in Palma de Mallorca.

Commemorating the conquest of the city by King Jaume I in 1229, the event sees the streets of the usually quiet city filled with massive processions, with participants dressed in traditional Mallorquin costume. Music and dancing form a large part of the celebrations, with bands and parties around every corner, and the La Seu Cathedral will also be hosting a special mass for the occasion.

On the 2nd of January, Majorca’s capital of Palma will be holding its New Year’s Concert. Based on the famous Vienna style concerts, the event has been running on the Balearic Island for over twenty years, making it the must-go New Year’s party for locals and visitors alike. Performances from the Balearic Symphony Orchestra at the Auditorium de Palma de Mallorca head up the programme of events.
