Recent news reports about holiday companies facing economic difficulties have highlighted the potential problems that are still being felt from the recession. However, things are definitely on the upturn now, and the end result is a proliferation of bargains to tempt tourists to many of Europe’s favourite hot-spots. Resorts in Portugal, Spain, Italy and Greece, among others, are now preparing for a bumper year after a stressful 2011.

One of the most popular holiday regions in the whole of Europe is the Balearic Islands, and there are so many cheap holidays to Majorca to choose from at the moment.

Synonymous with sun-kissed beaches, lively nightclubs and tempting restaurants, it has been welcoming tourists from the United Kingdom for many decades. The climate is wonderful, with many hours of uninterrupted sunshine providing the perfect backdrop to any vacation.

Any British visitors that like their food are in for a superb time on this beautiful island. The local restaurants offer cuisine from all over the world, but the specialist Majorcan dishes are particularly highly recommended. One of the most mouth-watering is the sobrassada, a delicious sausage made with paprika, spices and ground pork. If you like your food even hotter to the taste, try it with some cayenne pepper.

Another favourite on the island is arros brut, which is chicken and pork cooked with vegetables and saffron rice. Many Majorcan restaurants offer a wonderful selection of fish dishes as well, often served with baked potatoes or a generous helping of flavoured rice.
