When it comes to holidaying in Majorca, tourists are truly spoilt for choice. The island’s numerous events play a big role in what it has to offer, but the natural landscapes and countryside of Majorca are one of its biggest draws for travellers.

Its coast and mountain ranges offer an endless amount of hikes, and with the mild weather, low amount of crowds and cheap holidays to Majorca that come with this time of the year, it’s a perfect time to do some exploration.

Plenty to Explore in Soller

One of the best and most convenient places to visit for a walking holiday in Majorca is Soller. The town is comprised of several small villages and hamlets with a combined population of only 12,000, and is an ideal gateway to some of the best trails on the island.

Surrounding the town is a series of mountains, varying in size and structure to offer a varying level of difficulty for hiking. Climbing each will offer a splendid view of the nearby coast and neighbouring hills, and will allow you to see the townships of Soller from a refreshing viewpoint.

Soller itself can take up a lot of your time to fully explore. Quiet in comparison to other tourist areas in Majorca, it makes for an ideal retreat to enjoy the natural beauty and culture of Majorca. Amongst the quaint town’s villages are Fornalutx, Biniaraix, and the port of Soller itself, and they all have something to offer.

There are several old lighthouses that make for some interesting viewing, and are a good location to observe some of the rare birds that regularly visit the town’s coast. There are also many restaurants, bars and shops that line the streets of Soller where you can try the local cuisine and purchase some unique gifts.

Have you been thinking of a cultural holiday lately? Then its time you looked for cheap holidays to Majorca. The island of Majorca is one of the most popular and beautiful holiday destinations in Europe, and the place to celebrate the Saint Sebastian festival.

To experience the rich culture of the islands and to enjoy the beautiful sand-filled beaches, a number of tourists throng to the Palma de Majorca, the island’s capital, during the month of January.

The Saint Sebastian festival is celebrated from the 16th to the 21st of January and consists of several events that both the locals and the tourists enjoy. The events include concerts, fireworks, and a number of other outdoor activities. While you are at the Majorcan capital, one of the things you should not miss is the experience of staying at a native villa.

A Variety of Culture to Absorb

On the night of 16th, barbecues and bonfires are organised around the town villas, along with stages on the streets for several outdoor performances to mark the festival’s opening. An added attraction on this night, which happens to be St Anthony’s eve, are the locals who get dress up as bright and colorful devils and fill the streets with music, dance and a variety of performances.

Look for cheap holidays to Majorca to be there one night before the festival starts, and you could enjoy the pop and jazz concerts that are organised as a prelude to the festival. The 20th of January is a day for religious celebrations throughout the capital, and to take part in outdoor events like bicycle parades and tours through historical places.

To add some sparkle to your trip, don’t forget to watch the fireworks that are displayed on the 20th of January, which also happens to be the last day of the festival.

Owners of holiday homes generally tend to leave their properties empty during the winter months, so when it’s time to reopen the villa, apartment or house in the spring it can be quite an intensive task. There are so many things to do, which is why many people draw up to-do lists before they even get on the plane from the UK.

One of the most important aspects to consider is pest control. While we all do our best to avoid any issues with unwanted intruders, there’s always the possibility that some creatures may have been able to access the property. Mercifully, it’s easy to find accurate and relevant information about what to do next on the worldwide web.

Make Sure Everything is in Place for the Summer

Throughout the home, the best preparation for the coming summer is an intense cleaning regime. Bedding, towels, cushions and floor coverings all need to be thoroughly refreshed, and outside floors need to be scrubbed and disinfected, too. One particular area which needs particular attention is often the flooring around the swimming pool.

With the ready availability of cheap holidays to Majorca at the moment, many home owners choose to take the whole family with them for their first visit of the year. Needless to say, the more people that are ready and willing to help, the more easily every task can be completed. It’s often a good idea to plan a set itinerary so that each person can take charge of a particular room or area, or perhaps a specific task that needs doing throughout the property.

Recent news reports about holiday companies facing economic difficulties have highlighted the potential problems that are still being felt from the recession. However, things are definitely on the upturn now, and the end result is a proliferation of bargains to tempt tourists to many of Europe’s favourite hot-spots. Resorts in Portugal, Spain, Italy and Greece, among others, are now preparing for a bumper year after a stressful 2011.

One of the most popular holiday regions in the whole of Europe is the Balearic Islands, and there are so many cheap holidays to Majorca to choose from at the moment.

Synonymous with sun-kissed beaches, lively nightclubs and tempting restaurants, it has been welcoming tourists from the United Kingdom for many decades. The climate is wonderful, with many hours of uninterrupted sunshine providing the perfect backdrop to any vacation.

Any British visitors that like their food are in for a superb time on this beautiful island. The local restaurants offer cuisine from all over the world, but the specialist Majorcan dishes are particularly highly recommended. One of the most mouth-watering is the sobrassada, a delicious sausage made with paprika, spices and ground pork. If you like your food even hotter to the taste, try it with some cayenne pepper.

Another favourite on the island is arros brut, which is chicken and pork cooked with vegetables and saffron rice. Many Majorcan restaurants offer a wonderful selection of fish dishes as well, often served with baked potatoes or a generous helping of flavoured rice.

With Britain now firmly gripped by the cold, you could be excused for wanting to spend your New Year in an altogether warmer location. Majorca presents the perfect destination to do so.

As well as its famous nightlife and beaches, the island will also have on a number of events and parties to herald in the New Year, making it a great alternative for almost everyone. With cheap holidays to Majorca in regular supply, you may want to look in to booking your trip straight away.

Celebrating New Year in True Majorca Style

Majorca will be seeing in the New Year in a very traditional style. The Balearic Island will be having its annual Festa de I’Estendard, which will be held in Palma de Mallorca.

Commemorating the conquest of the city by King Jaume I in 1229, the event sees the streets of the usually quiet city filled with massive processions, with participants dressed in traditional Mallorquin costume. Music and dancing form a large part of the celebrations, with bands and parties around every corner, and the La Seu Cathedral will also be hosting a special mass for the occasion.

On the 2nd of January, Majorca’s capital of Palma will be holding its New Year’s Concert. Based on the famous Vienna style concerts, the event has been running on the Balearic Island for over twenty years, making it the must-go New Year’s party for locals and visitors alike. Performances from the Balearic Symphony Orchestra at the Auditorium de Palma de Mallorca head up the programme of events.

In 2011, a report was published in Europe, and the findings raised many an eyebrow in the tourism industry. Its claim that Spanish holidaymakers are forgoing their traditional resorts to head to Majorca instead was something of a surprise, but it spells good news for the Balearic Islands, as it vindicates their claim to be one of the continent’s very best hot-spots.

The underlying message is that Majorca is a wonderful location in which to enjoy a top quality vacation, because if it’s good enough for the Spanish then it must surely be more than good enough for visitors from elsewhere.

Things to Please Everyone and All Tastes

Perhaps the most striking aspect of Majorca as a holiday destination is that it can be all things to all people. For families, it features a wide range of activities that can be enjoyed, as well as an enormous selection of top-rated beaches to while away the lazy afternoons. It’s also popular with clubbers, of course, and has a reputation for some of the finest nightlife to be enjoyed anywhere on the continent.

With a great selection of cheap flights to Majorca at the moment, it’s possible to reach the island on something of a shoestring. Even in the middle of a worldwide recession it’s possible to find some amazing bargains.

Whether you’re looking to book next year’s summer adventure or you just fancy a little winter sun, you should be looking to Majorca for your destination. And all you need to find the best airline deals in a computer and an internet connection.

In early December 2011, the world’s media turned their attention to the idyllic Spanish island of Majorca, after it transpired that US financier David Spargo, who is wanted by US police, had found refuge there.

Anyone who has visited Majorca for a holiday in the past would understand completely why he chose this beautiful paradise with a superb climate, even in the traditional winter months.

A Popular Destination for Good Reason

Majorca is the largest of the Balearic Islands, and has been a popular destination for holiday-making Britons for many decades. Located off the eastern coast of Spain, it has a population of around 850,000, although this number increases greatly during the summertime.

Originally a centre for olive cultivation and salt mining, tourism now provides the island’s main source of income. As well as British tourists, there are also large numbers of visitors from Germany, the Netherlands, France and the Republic of Ireland.

Ask most visitors to the island about their favourite aspect of their holiday and the chances are they will mention the superb sandy beaches. However, there is so much more to life on Majorca, and for fans of culture and heritage that can only mean the range of museums, churches and art galleries that are located in the towns and cities.

With so many cheap holidays to Majorca available on the web, it’s possible to make tracks to the island without having to pay a small fortune. There are planes leaving the UK for the Balearics throughout the year, even in the depths of a cold and unwelcoming British winter.

As one of the most popular holiday destinations in Europe, Majorca has built a reputation on its natural beauty. The island’s beaches, waters and coves are what it has become synonymous with, but few who travel to the island think to venture further north for an altogether different taste of its landscape.

The Balearic Island’s mountains display an alternative side for holidaymakers, and with cheap holidays to Majorca in abundance, now is the time to find out for yourself.

A Visually Stunning Natural Landscape

The Serra de Tramuntana Mountains form the backbone of the northern part of Majorca, providing the Balearic Island with one of the most visually stunning natural landscapes you’re likely to find.

An official World Heritage Site, the mountain range provides the perfect antidote for those seeking something other than Majorca’s sunny climate. The mountains are usually wet, rainy and at times cold, with a touch of snow reaching its higher peaks during the winter months.

Puig Major is the highest point of the range, measuring almost 1500 metres in total, which makes it the highest mountain in the whole of the Balearic Islands. Access to the peak is restricted due to military control, but the neighbouring mountain of Puig de Massanella measures only a hundred metres less. Trekking to the top may prove arduous, but the overlooking view it provides of Majorca makes it well worth the effort.

There are many famous landmarks across Europe, from the Houses of Parliament in the west to the Brandenburg Gate in the east, and the more familiar of them attract visitors from all over the world. Many thousands of tourists will daily visit the more famous ones, such as the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, the Coliseum in Rome and the Parthenon in Athens.

Needless to say, there are some places which remain a little less famous, yet are equally breath-taking when seen for the first time. One of them, the stunning Castell de Bellver in Majorca, is something of a hidden gem, but it lives long in the memory of anybody who has made the trip to the hill that lies three kilometres to the north-west of Palma, the island’s capital.

Fascinating Artifacts

Once a home to the King of Majorca, the castle was built back in 1311. It now serves as a museum that is home to a variety of fascinating artefacts, and welcomes a large number of tourists every year, especially in the summer months. The main yard of the castle sometimes hosts concerts, and the natural acoustics make it ideal for all genres of music.

The good news for UK visitors is that there are plenty of cheap holidays to Majorca to choose from, so they can get to this wonderful island without having to spend a small fortune. The money they save on the air travel can then be used to pay for gifts from friends or family members, or perhaps to enjoy the nightlife a little more.
